Fly with dog to GTO

Hi,
I'm interested in bringing my dog with me on my next trip down. I have driven down before with my dog, and no one even asked to see his health records. However this time I will be flying, and since he isn't a lap dog, he can't fit under the seat.

I was told that crated /cargo pets go through customs differently and must have a quarantine period.

Has anyone else had any experiences with this ?

I think it would be best to contact the airline you'll be using for up-to-date information and realize that no matter what info you get now, as with all travel these days, the rules and regulations may change at any moment right up to the time of departure.
