Yesterday’s Leon newspaper contained an informative article on the number of foreign residents currently (2017) living in the State of Guanajuato as provided by INM.
12,600 USA
6,500 Japan
2,500 S.Korea
Other nationalities had lesser residents.

Maybe 5 years back, a government-published report said San Miguel de Allende alone had more than 14,000 foreign residents.
I suppose that figure was for both temporary and permanent.

The article did not classify by type of visa, only totals by nationality.
Not surprising it said Venezuelans are among the fastest growing source, but showed only 600 in 2017. Also Canadians were not mentioned? Again, these numbers are statewide.
