Snakes in GTO
Hola, Most unusual tonight as I was preparing dinner - there was a small snake on the inside ledge of our kitchen window. I was quick with the tongs and whisked it out. I called my wife to look out but as she crossed into the foyer - where the door was wide open- the slitherer had made it back in. [there was a scream] We tried for several minutes to coax it back out the door or into a box and were almost successful on a couple of occasions but it retreated into an area where we could see it but not catch it. [another strategy needed to be employed but I won't go into it here]

Has anyone else noticed any snakes? I've been here since ?96 and have seen a few. This one was 15-18" long maybe 3/8th's" in diameter with a definite snake shaped head and long forked tongue. Anyone know what it is/was and if it was dangerous?

Yes, I have seen a snake. On a neighbor's roof terrace parapet. Quite dead and somewhat dried up. But, about the same measurements you describe. Have no clue what type snake it was or how it got there.

RE: Snakes in GTO
At one point in my teen years I wanted to be a herpetologist and learned a little bit about snakes in north america. Need much more info about coloration. All snakes have forked tongues and snake shaped heads. What were the colors? There are very few snakes in Estado G'to but in come locations a few are dangerous. Was the snake black? all over? stripes? along body? or around circumference? color juxtaposition is important. Did you get a pic?

Hi Kay, Thanks for the reply.

My comment, a snake shaped head was kind of dumb Cows have cow shaped heads etc. But there can be some variance. In this case the head was mas o menos diamond shaped and the short neck was distinctively narrower than either the head or body. Color was a darkish grey. No patterns [rings/diamonds/stripes] that I can recall. Surface appeared more smooth than rough. Diameter of the body was that of a ball point pen. It was already boxed, double bagged and in the dumpster when I realized it had passed up its photo opportunity.

In an article on an exhibit at the Leon Zoo it stated, "...5 v?boras que habitan en Guanajuato" So that should narrow it down but I haven't found a site with images of those five

I disagree - some snakes have cow shaped heads and they are very dangerous!
