Mugging in GTO centre
Hello, I am sorry for making my appearance in this blog with such a bad news. I was actually interested in getting some info about accommodation and events, and I will do it in the next days through a separate post.
Now I wanna share what's happened last night to my friend from Colorado. He was going back home with is Mexican girl roughly at 11pm, when two knife-armed muggers stopped them and quickly took away her pouch and some other stuff. It happened on top of stairs on the right of Teatro Principal. What scares me the most, is that they pointed a knife in my friend's neck.. Moreover, he told me that the two muggers were both trembling while committing the crime. Therefore, we've inferred that probably they're not expert criminals, and this is even more alarming.

Hello Rafael

I assume that one or both of the victims were American?

In 2011 i was the target of a similar robbery by two young amateurs but
no weapons were involved--at 8.30am on a bright sunny morning at Dos RĂos.

Please ask your friends to file a report with the GTO police. Just possibly they may know the culprits.

The American Embassy in Mexico City asks me to report crimes against Americans for their statistical database.

Thanks,

Hello Rafael,
I'm sorry to hear that this happened to your friends. Please encourage them to report this to the police office (el Ministerio Publico). Hopefully the Mexican girl can go with your friend in case his Spanish isn't good enough. Their offices are on Alhondiga Street, 1/2 block above the Alhondiga.
It is important that all crimes are reported so that maybe (some day, in my dreams!) the police department here improves. About a month ago, my neighbor and the shop attendant (both Mexicans) were held up at knife point in a little store on Pastita Street. It can happen to anybody, anywhere.
Welcome to Guanajuato!
Barbara

About five years ago, when I told my son by phone that I had been assaulted near Paseo de la Presa about five years ago, his response was, "Mom, the guy could have had a knife." Thanks for going into detail. I agree, it can happen to anyone although bound to be more common in the dark.
