Leon Airport

Any advice on getting someone from the Leon airport to centro GTO. I have a friend arriving at 10:05 pm so given they have to clear customs the bus from Siloa or Leon might be done running. Is a taxi my only other option?

Phil,
The buses from Silao and Leon DO NOT ( unless the scene has changed recently) stop at the airport. They run the route on the MAIN ROAD to and from GTO, and I've seen people attempt to hail them to stop. I think the taxis have the transport to and from the airport all tied up. about 350 pesos one way. Maybe more now.

I agree. Many people have tried to find ways around this transportation from the Leon Airport to el Centro GTO. For example: This is the 25th year for the Univ. of AZ Verano en Mexico for students/teachers who visit in the summer. For some time they flew into Leon but the additional $40+/- for a cab to elCentro GTO made it a LOT cheaper to fly into D.F. and take a bus to the GTO autobus station and a local bus to downtown.

What we have done in the past is walk to the main road from the airport and then grabbed a local bus to Siloa having a lot of luggage would not work. apparently taxis are not supposed to pick people up on that stretch of road We have also taken a taxi to Leon bus station and caught a bus. Unfortunately the flight is so late we probably would miss the last bus.

A friend came in from the airport last week by taxi to the centro. Cost was 440 pesos at around 7:00 in the evening. Sometimes the fare can be more at night. You buy a ticket when you come out of aduana; tip is built into the fare.

When I picked up my Wife at the Leon Airport in a private car I noticed at the "Transportation counter" that there is a "Collectivo" type transport at a considerable discount from the taxi fare. Do not remember exactly but beleive it was around 150 pesos.

Does anybody know whether the buses that stop on the carretera just outside BJX (the Leon airport) leave directly from the central bus station in Silao?

Edit: I did some recon today and will answer my own question in case it helps future searchers. There are local buses that leave from the central station in Silao and stop on the carretera in front of the airport. It took me five minutes to walk from the bus stop into the airport.
