Bravos de León 2021 baseball season
The Bravos de León of the Mexican League have started their season with a 5-4 record. This is impressive for two reasons:
1. They started the season with four losses, three of them at home. They proceeded to win five straight on the road. 2. The fact that there's pro baseball at all in León is noteworthy. The Mexican League lost their entire season last year. After the 2018 season (their second), they announced that they were shutting down. However, Mexican President López Obrador stepped in and brokered a deal to get new ownership, with deeper pockets, for the team. I don't know how the Bravos payroll compares to the rest of the league, but the highest profile player they have is Tony Campana, who played three seasons in Major League ball. Chris Roberson had a short Major League career, and he's 41 years old. They have a couple of other players that are pushing 40. Their best hitter at the moment is Mexican Agustin Murillo, who is 39, and batting .412. As for pitching, Venezuelan Jonathan Vargas, a youngster at 32, has two starts, and an ERA of 1.59. The Manager of the Bravos is Tim Johnson. He managed the Blue Jays for one season (1998), and has managed several Mexican League teams and some independent league teams since then. The Bravos have six home games this week; June 1-3 vs. Durango, and June 4-6 vs. Puebla. Here's the complete schedule: https://www.bravosdeleon.com/calendario Sunday games start at 1:15 PM; the other ones are at night. |

RE: Bravos de León 2021 baseball season
Since I posted this, things have picked up for the Bravos. They have won eight of their last ten games, and are one game out of first place in their division.
They are out of town this week. The upcoming home series are vs. Piratas de Campeche June 15-17, and Mariachis de Guadalajara June 18-20. |
