I ran into this same problem last year further compounded by the fact we were traveling by car and not plane so we went uninsured [and on the way back incurred a $5k one night hospital bill in Alabama].
Later I discovered WorldNomads which seems to offer coverage - you enter your country of permanent residence and then your destination country - tick off a few more choices and you get an instant quote.
