Everyone I know self-insures with dental since the rates are reasonable. Also I self-insure with medical which may be a stupid choice for me. Not sure what I'll do as my health begins to fail but so far been very lucky. Working on residency but don't have it yet. I've been to the hospital twice in the last 12 years here and twice in the US. First Mexico visit was $250 and the second was $550. In the US, medicare paid but the visits there to emergency room for just routine exams and medicine were $20K and $25K. Your mileage may vary.

Am curious. Does Medicare Parts A/B cover emergency room visits in the U.S. ? I've heard stories about 20K sticker shock charges for emergency care, but did Medicare Parts A/B cover all or most of it.

I have ARP secondary and all was covered but a $100 deductible.
