Hello, Guanajuato… Hello!
Hello, Guanajuato … Hello!

Will I enjoy your quaint alleyways laden with garbage, trash, dog sh*t, and home to the occasional public restroom? No, I will not. Yes, yes we will...

Will I enjoy the rudeness of locals, tourists, and gringos alike? No … no, I will not. Yes, yes we will...

...

Will I enjoy the art of side-stepping dog sh*t along city sidewalks and in the streets? Hardly. Yes, yes we will... It is an art after all... :-)

...

Will I ever return to my beloved Guanajuato? Yes, yes we will!

Now, I hope you catch my satire here... especially in light of the goof who posted "Goodbye, Guanajuato … Goodbye!"

In short, my wife (Mexican) and I (Canadian) fell in love with your beautiful town and are looking to return for an extended period of time - Feb. to May. We are well traveled, active, enthusiastic and looking to truly embrace the entire community and culture of Guanajuato.

I am reaching out here to ask for your kind help. We are looking to rent a nice furnished flat in a comfortable part of town. If you know of anyone who can help, please connect us! I am at cleveland82@gmail.com As well, any thoughts on where we can join the fun, please let us know. This includes volunteering, social events and of course, salsa dancing!

Thanks so much - Cory & Suze

As far as social events, I recommend you follow the Guana What site in Facebook.

RE: Hello, Guanajuato… Hello!
I would be cautious in trusting that Casa Soleris will find you something.

They were incredibly nice to me when I was looking, and I wish I could give them a good review - but, I was in Guanajuato for a month, and they botched 3 different properties (the first, they told me was available and suggested I wait on giving my deposit on a seperate property until I saw the more impressive first property. After 2 weeks of continuously trying to schedule a time to see the apartment, it turned out this property was not available. I withdrew a large sum of money to pay a deposit on the 2nd property, which they had reassured me was still available, only to find out that it too was no longer available. The 3rd property was in Marfil, I insisted on seeing it in person, only to find that it was only a 1-bedroom, not a 2-bedroom as promised for my friend and me.) I finally had to use AirBnB, as I had run out of time.

I'm sure for buying a house, when you already have a place to live in Gto, they are great, but I would not trust them to find me an apartment to live in.

RE: Hello, Guanajuato… Hello!
I love the town but you can't look at the entire city through rose colored glasses. Even though everyone jumped on the dog crap fellow, one has to admit there is still is a lot of dog poo around. And I have to say the people who I have heard complain most are Mexican citizens of the town, not some Gringo on a high horse.

Otherwise I personally spent 2 full days loading up over 20 full contractor bags of garbage from the triangle at the top of Perros Muertos, near Tunnel Noreste and I noticed a month later it was completely piled with trash again. Not a lot of civic pride where the street crews don't clean up every day.

Still I suppose like the US it's love it or leave it, so lucky there are so many in love. :-)
