US EMBASSY ANNOUNCEMENT
U.S. Embassy Warden Message Number 15 - 2010 September 16, 2010 This Warden Message is being issued to inform U.S. citizens that the Government of Mexico has issued a Warning for Hurricane Karl that was located 280 miles east southeast of Tuxpan, Veracruz at 1:00 p.m. central daylight time today. This warning is for the gulf coast of Mexico from Palma Sola to Cabo Rojo. In addition, there is a Hurricane Watch in effect north of Cabo Rojo to La Cruz and a Tropical Storm Warning for the coast south of Palma Sola to Veracruz city. The U.S. National Weather Service predicts that the center of Karl will move over the gulf coast of Mexico late Friday or Saturday. Please visit the National Hurricane Center?s website http://www.nhc.noaa.gov to follow the storm?s path. In addition to danger from wind, a storm surge can be expected to produce some coastal flooding near and to the north of where the center makes landfall. The storm surge may be accompanied by large and damaging waves. Karl is expected to produce large amounts of rain as it makes landfall. U.S. citizens in coastal areas may be impacted by the storm and are strongly encouraged to monitor media reports, and the Mexican Government?s Proteccion Civil website, http://www.proteccioncivil.gob.mx for updated information about the storm and to follow official instructions. U.S. citizens are urged to stay clear of beaches as rough seas associated with storm conditions create severe hazards. U.S. citizens should stay in contact with relatives and friends in the U.S. to apprise them of their whereabouts, both before and after the storm. Visitors should be familiar with their hotel or cruise ship evacuation plans. If you must travel during this time, please follow normal heavy rain precautions. Additional information on hurricanes and storm preparedness may be found in the ?Hurricane Season-Know Before You Go? pamphlet at: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw..._2915.html and on the ?Natural Disasters? page of the Bureau of Consular Affairs? website at: http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emer..._1207.html.
