Beware Gas Tank Burglars!

If you have, as I do, an outside gas tank "closet", be aware that they are very vulnerable to burglary. This is not new news, but I thought it worth posting, because my closet, with very heavy metal door and heavy padlock, was broken into and both (full) tanks stolen. The thieves also just ripped everything out, so not only did I have to replace the tanks and gas, but I also had to replace part of the the feed pipe into the house, the regulator, and the two pigtails. It was a major expense, not to mention nuisance!

So, now, I have a bigger padlock with a shorter shank (harder to pry), a major heavy chain locking the two tanks together, and an alarm (!) that goes off when the door is opened by an unauthorized user.

A neighbor recently had his electric meter stolen. Another friend had a cheap outside light taken right off the wall. Might be time for a review of your own vulnerable things!
