The march scheduled will begin at the Los Pozuelos glorieta. Does anyone know if non-citizens can participate with impunity? By the way, the same process of roads first, suburbs next happened in the US after WWII.

RE: protesting Sun 10am against proposed construction--risky for non-Mex citizens?
ABSOLUTELY. PLEASE ABSTAIN! This is a partial message from the US EMBASSY...
"The Mexican Constitution prohibits political activities by foreigners, and such actions may result in detention and/or deportation. U.S. citizens are therefore advised to avoid participating in demonstrations or other activities that might be deemed political by Mexican authorities. As is always the case in any large gathering, U.S. citizens should remain alert to their surroundings." |

at your own risk.............................
Foreigners Cannot Engage in Political Activity The Mexican Constitution states very clearly that "Foreigners shall not in any way involve themselves in the political matters of the country" This is emphatically interpreted to mean that foreigners do not have the right to vote, run for public office, or participate in any political event, rally or demonstration. Additionally, foreigners should stay away from all political activity including any kind of demonstration or protest even if you think it is seemingly on-political. Engaging in these kinds of activities is a good way to be asked to leave the country. More on the legal rights of foreigners in Mexico can be found on Bajabound.com |

Don't touch this one! The purpose is to influence the local government to reverse the zoning decision, and if this is not political I don't know what is.
This is also why, in my previous post about the opposition group on Facebook, I posted it as information only. The group is public, but definitely do not join it. We are guests in this country. While we may privately deplore M?xico's making the same poor decisions as were made in the U.S. 50-60 years ago, we must refrain from trying to stop them politically. |
