Yesterday the upright freezers next to the beer case had switched to steam heat while electricity was off for an unknown time. Contents were soggy and sad inside.
So if you buy anything from those freezers make sure that you are getting pristine, not twice-frozen, goods. For example if that box of frozen waffles appears to be concave instead of having all sides flat with angles right, forego buying it, chacha. |

RE: Meltdown at Soriana
I have seen this same thing happen at Soriana Pitillal Puerto Vallarta and subsequently they refroze all of the products and sold them. I think many of the products were unfrozen so long they were no longer fit for human consumption.
Aditionally tyhey often fill the freezers above the line for freezing meaning that the items at the top are unfrozen and sometimes they are refrozen. I had a conversation later with the manager of that Soriana and I treatened to post the disaster on all forums in English and Spanish and the damaged productys were removed from the freezers! Additionally years ago when there was a toxic Skippy Peanut butter lot in the USA I discovered the ptoduct from the same Lot in Sams Club puerto Vallarta. The strange part is that the recall and publicity was well underway in the USA and I believe that toxic product was intentionally being sold off in Mexico. I called the corporate office of Sams club in mexico city and they assured me they would have the product off the shelf in 3 days. I told them 3 days was too long as it was making people very ill and they knew it. I proceeded to inform them that if the product was not removed from the shelves inside of 24 hours I would take it to the media and publcize it on the internet. Upon my return the next day, the p?oduct was removed. I therefore advise all consumers to pay attention to recalls north of the border as I have now more than once seen such products being sold off in Mexico. Be careful with Toothpaste, Play Doh, crayons, and any product made in China , especially if you have children as toxic productsa are everywhere in mexico . This is the dumping ground for what can not be sold in the USA I also caught them at the same Soriana Store on Deceembre 26th refreezing turkeys! (oops sorry that was in a Chedraui, not Soriana) As for Soriana they obviosly have little regard for quality nor for their customers health. |

RE: Meltdown at Soriana
I really do not trust anything 'frozen' in local super markets. The Comercial - long before the Mega was here- never kept its freezers cold enough for ice cream. Open the door to grab a pint and it squished like a contianer of yogurt. The Mega arrived 4 years ago and things did not get better. In the open freezer bins the french fries are often squishy/semi to almost completly thawed. I've brought this to the attention of the manager but my comments fell on deaf ears even though I was standing in front of him with a floppy thawed example. COSTCO in Leon is no better. Once I bought a quart of Ben and Jerry's which seemed quite frozen. Placed it in our ice packed cooler for the ride back to GTO and it arrived here still frozen - but on serving it we found it was ladden with ice crystals a sure indication that it had suffered a meltdown somewhere along the supply chain. Knowing more deaf ears would be at Costco customer service I wrote B&J's in Vermont - they sent my sister a $5 coupon - valid only in the States.

RE: Meltdown at Soriana
The Commercial here in Zihuatanejo has cooler "Problems" for the last couple of weeks. Got sour milk last week from their "temporary" coolers.
It's a 2 mile round trip walk or 50 peso cab ride so hardly worth returning. |
