advice about getting to and from Leon bus station

Hi,

My husband and I are in Guanajuato for 4 months and have planned a side trip to Zihuatanejo. We have already bought our tickets on Primera Plus that will take us from the bus station in Leon to Zihuatanejo.

On the way there, we thought we would get a city bus to the Centrales de Autobuses and then take an ETN bus to Leon.

On the way back we aren't sure what to do because the bus from Zihuatanejo arrives very late in Leon and the next bus from Leon to Centrales isn't until something like 5 hours later.

I'm sure we could pay a driver to pick us up but wanted to find out if there are any other options, especially for the trip home.

I came last March Zihua to Guanajuato changing buses in Morelia. I than went Morelia to Irapuato spending the night there as I was a day early for my hotel in Guanajuato. I could have taken another bus IRP to GTO arriving around 10:00.
There is a direct bus Morelia to Guanajuato but leaves about 30 minutes before first bus from Zihua. Going South no need to go to Leon as several buses throughout the day Morelia to Zihua.
PS Any questions I spend most of my Winters since 03 in Zihua & have visited every year since '99.

[picking dates at random 7 or 8 Jan] You could leave Zihua at 730am on Parihkuni to Morelia and then PP to GTO arriving at 6:50pm

Put in Morelia as the connecting point and leave the Time blank


But double check on the Parihkuni site - it doesn't show January yet nor non-de lujo services [so check in Zihua station office if there is AM local service]
However using their C-class service you could leave at 11am get to Morelia at 15:20 and then take PP but you miss your connection by 35 minutes. So enjoy Morelia for a day - great restaurants , a good zoo - stay up in the hill above town in Villa Montana if budget permits - (if not, its great for dinner at sundown and lights up in the Plaza de Armas down below) there are less expensive B&B's in walking distance

Try the Bus Sked com site and use Guadalajara as the connecting point and then double check with Turistar and ETN [well that doesn't work so well as ETN and Turistar share the same website and Zihua doesn't show up at all - go to the bus station or a Zihua travel agent and they'll sort it out for you]

A bit about Morelia. I spent a week there a few years ago finding a architecturally excellent place in El Central. Sophisticated, Clean with good museums. It is in fact a larger version (somewhat) of Guanajuato.
Excellent cafes , theater & lovely plazas.
And yes a very nice zoo.

I see now that I reread my original post that I didn't make it clear we have already bought our tickets both going to and from Zihuatanejo. I'm sorry about that. So I am really just asking for advice about getting to and from Leon as I say in my original post.

I think unused bus tickets are refundable if presented before the scheduled departure. Go out to the bus station and ask if a reembolsa is possible.
