Monday the 17th and Tuesday, La Rana Press will be discounting its books 30-70% in the bookshop at the Diego Rivera House-Museum on Positos. The annual Christmas sale includes art books (Olga Costa, John Nevin,etc), Guanajuato lore, fiction, poetry, children's books and much more. Come to think of it, this would be a good day to buy a couple of children's books to leave in public spaces on December 20, a special day to promote reading in Latin America. Just put a slip of paper in the book saying it's a gift, then leave the book on a public bench, your favorite coffeehouse or anywhere you think it might be found by a grateful reader.

Now and until January 8: On the right side of Plaza de la Paz going toward Mercado Hidalgo, you'll see a small book fair. The last stall on the left offers 40% off its selection of mostly used books, the majority in Spanish but a few in English a cut above the usual.
