A couple of comments on this post:

This is not automatic [being able to work] when you get an FM-2 - You need to change your status from Rentista [I think its actually called something else on the FM-2 but I can't recall the term] to Lucrativo and then once granted you have so many days to get over to the Hacienda in Leon to get your RFC and then begin the joys of making monthly tax payments if you are operating a business or doing house/apartment rentals. And in the later case you need to register with the state of Guanajuato and pay the tourism tax as well.

This is not so if you remain a rentista. Articulo 106 of the Aduana covers this. You can see the most current version here:
http://info4.juridicas.unam.mx/ijure/fed/11/122.htm?s=

An earlier version with an English translation can be found here: http://rollybrook.com/article_106.htm

Its wise to print this out and keep in your car as a defense when an overzealous cop is looking for something to hang on you, "expired import permit". Once they know you know the law they let you go.

title to land in Mexico.
Really? Are you confusing this with applying for Mexican citizenship?

Here are a couple of useful links to a Yucatan site that covers these subjects in detail and in English:
