Roku - VPN - Info

Hi,
I am returning to Mexico, and would like to know what is involved in installing A Roku device so that we can watch US TV on our TVs.
The info listed in the past post is a few years old, so I am sure a lot has changed.

If anyone has experience with Setting up a VPN on a router to complete this I would appreciate any advise on it.

I am using the router the cable company provided, will this work or should I buy a new router and bing it with me?

What internet speeds are required? I have heard the VPN slow the system down?

And any othe opinions / suggestions are greatly appreciated?
