Response from the Municipio re my complaint about buses on Sangre de Cristo
If you have a concern about the city, you can go to the Municipo (the building on Plaza de la Paz) on Monday mornings, and speak to the appropriate department head. I’ve done it before—successfully—about graffiti. This time I went there to discuss my objections to buses on Sangre de Cristo. They sent me to Transporte Municipal, near Pipila, where I was asked to write an escrito describing my concerns. I wrote them that because the street is narrow and congested, buses make it dangerous for pedestrians; that it was bad for tourism, since many tourists have to walk on a crowded, unpleasant street to reach hotels and restaurants beyond; that it damaged the image of Guanajuato, that the bus fumes were bad for people’s health; and that the buses are unpleasantly noisy.
Oh well. Así es… |

Thanks for the admirable effort, Louisa.
Maybe the Tourism department would have another opinion. If passenger service is really the reason, why not ban the big buses on Sangre compensate with an increase in the number of the smaller Combis? --doyle |

That’s a worthwhile suggestion, but likely local government will have trouble with actions that put more vehicles on the already congested streets. More vehicle free streets make sense to me.
Campeche has made great strides and gained huge amounts of quiet and clean public space for cafes, art, and peaceful strolling by closing many Centro streets. It’s one big fair, block by block. I would love such here. |
