Carma
A few months ago i bought a good old SUV (Texas plates) to haul my goods back to GTO.
It's no longer needed but I can't legally sell it in México. So i think of donating the vehicle to the Sierra Club when i drive to Laredo, mid-January. (see URL below.) https://sierraclubfoundation.careasy.org...rtnerships However, i wonder if there might be a local Mexican non-profit organization might want the vehicle as a donation. It could be that such donations to non-profits are permitted. Do you know of a local non-profit organization that might want the vehicle? |

RE: Carma
I investigated this in 2010, vis-a-vis my minivan. The Hacienda in León advised me to donate it to Cruz Roja in Guanajuato, which I did. It now serves as an ambulance, and I'm still overjoyed with that. The only catch is that when I stopped by Banjercito in Nuevo Laredo with my donation receipt and related paperwork in 2013, they advised me that while the donation was indeed legal, the minivan was still tied to my U.S passport, and I would not be allowed to bring in another vehicle from the U.S. under my (then) FM3. That's basically irrelevant for me, since I now have a Visa Permanente, and if I drove a car, it would need to have Mexican plates. Also, I renewed my U.S. passport a couple of years ago, and now have a different number. If I were still on a temporary visa, I imagine I could bring in a car from the U.S. But, it's a moot point.
If you want to pursue this track, my advice is to first go to the Hacienda and ask them to confirm this option is still valid. I imagine since this is a SUV, Cruz Roja will gladly take it. They transport a lot of people from the surrounding pueblitos to their clinic next to Comercial Mexicana. |

RE: Carma
Hell Casugie Thanks for the reply and the info.
I think the aduana near the León airport may not have been installed in 2010. So now maybe a Red Cross donation could be coordinated with aduana here and thereby making sure that i get back the deposit on the vehicle with no future hassles. Did you go to the Red Cross by Comercial or ??? --doyle |

RE: Carma
Cruz Roja next to Comercial.
Aduana has nothing to do with vehicles. It's the Hacienda (Mexican IRS) that "disposes" of foreign-plated vehicles. If they say it's OK to donate to Cruz Roja or other designated A.C. (Mexican non-profit), you can do it. However, if you intend to bring in another U.S. - plated vehicle under a tourist or temporary visa, Banjercito may not allow it. |

RE: Carma
There's a group in Silao that needs a vehicle to transport patients to dialysis treatments. Not sure of the name of the group.
