Help for the caravan
The Center for Global Justice and allied organizations prepare for Honduran refugee caravan
The estimated 7,000 Honduran refugees walking north through Mexico are expected in early November to reach the city of Celaya, some 49 kilometers south of San Miguel de Allende. Ignacio Martinez Ramirez, founder of ABBA House, the well-known migrant refuge in Celaya, is directing the extensive preparations for the caravan while Caminamos Juntos of San Miguel, the Latin American Relief Fund, the Train Tracks Project, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel and other organizations and individuals are volunteering to help and are funneling resources to ABBA House to build the inventory of needed supplies to provide the caravan with adequate food, shelter, clothing and other assistance. Preparing to meet the needs of thousands of people who have been trekking for weeks is an enormous task. Celaya will dedicate its city stadium as an encampment area for the caravan. ABBA House and the team of organizations named above are providing the material, human and financial resources to supply the encampment with bedding, food, bottles of water, walking shoes, light-weight blankets, chap-stick, personal hygiene items, medicine, and other necessities. You too can lend a hand to ease the suffering and hardship among these courageous people fleeing drug-war related violence, chaos and poverty. You can help most of all by providing money to fund the purchasing of supplies. Center for Global Justice urges your support through the GoFundMe site Help for the Caravan. https://globaljusticecenter.org/sites/al...qid=335322 This email is sent from: The Center for Global Justice Calzada de la Luz, #42 San Miguel de Allende, GUA Mexico Trish Snyder <trishsnyder49@gmail.com> Here's a little info you might want to include. All funds will go to ABBA safe house in Celaya to purchase food, water, socks, shoes and essentials. We don’t know exactly which of three routes the migrants will take, how many will come to our area or when they will arrive. We do know that we will be prepared when they do get here. Volunteers will be divided among three teams and three shifts. People are signing up to prepare and serve food, to drive, to translate and to be available on short notice. The Red Cross will take care of medical needs. Volunteer attorneys and psychologists will be on hand. This coming together of love and generosity is a multi-cultural example of community. Thank you for being part of this history in the making. Sincerely, Trish Snyder For more information to volunteer, contact Trish Snyder at email trishsnyder49@gmail.com or call 415-121-0612. There is a mandatory training session for security reasons. They are almost fully staffed now, but it would be good to have a backup list because we don't know how long this will go on. Most useful are people willing to cook at home and people who can drive to Celaya to deliver. |

RE: Help for the caravan
Mark this on your calendar:
Every year, the San Miguel de Allende Center of PEN International conducts a lecture series in January and February. In 2019, the very first lecture will be by ABBA House. It will be January 15, at 6 PM, at the Bellas Artes in SMA. |
