RE: Moving money?
Thank you datgnat. My wife and I are in our early 50's moving from Phoenix. I'm working on banking, visa status, health insurance, housing, etc. Please feel free to PM me if you want to discuss. I'm no expert but two heads are usually better than one). At a minimum we might each have some good resources to share that the other person doesn't.

RE: Moving money?
I have posted here previously that we opened our Santander account with our tourist permit, but that was in 2004. I must be in the bank early next week and will inquire as to their present policy and post that information. Perhaps others here with acccounts elsewhere could seek out and post their banks policy. This question comes up a lot.

RE: Moving money?
I've thought about a Mexican bank account solely because one of my accounts was compromised. My bank refunds all of my transaction fees, however the fact that my account was wiped out entirely concerns me.

RE: Moving money?
As in many aspects of life money talks and, well otherwise you wait in long lines.
Most Mexican banks, Santander included, offer a dedicated teller for “premium” account holders. The account balance to qualify varies.

RE: Moving money?
I just went through the process of opening an account in Tlaquepaque. We have Temporary Residency. As someone said it seems like a hit or miss process to me. The first Citibanamex branch I went into told me I couldn't open account unless we were Permanent Residents. I went to a Banorte branch. After calling someone the bank person again told me I couldn't do it. I went into a second Citibanamex branch. Again, I was told No, but he did make a call and eventually opened an account for me. I've had similar experiences with my Fidelity card. One day it works at a branch, the next day it doesn't. Fidelity doesn't even have a record of my failed attempts. Strange.

RE: Moving money?
I praised TransferWise here four years ago. Two things:

The company changed its name to Wise. https://wise.com/

They no longer support transfers from Mexican banks. Only TO Mexican banks.
