Flying bugs!
We noticed that we are seeing bugs that look like carpenter ants, but possibly a little larger, particularly in the west windows in the afternoons. We did some research and found that these usually make nests in wood beams in your home, old fence posts, etc, but have found no such nests and we have very little structural wood in our home. Today we found a very large round nest, approximately a foot in diameter attached to the underside of an outside cement deck. It had thousands of these bugs in it, and was covered on the outside as well. We asked some local friends about it and they recommended knocking it down and quickly bagging it and then running away! We did so, but still wondering what kinds of bugs they are and do they do other damage that we might not know about? Thanks!

RE: Flying bugs!
It is my understanding that female cockroaches develop wings during mating season We were told in Zihuatanejo one year that to be sure to keep our patio screen shut as it was that season. My wife ignored this advice having one land on her face during siesta! Only happened once needless to say.

RE: Flying bugs!
Termites? We saw similar insects swarming last week.
