Your favorite burger?
Don't think this has been considered in quite a while.
Where is the best place to get a hamburger in GTO?
Fries optional.

I don't know about burgers , but there is a little butcher shop in the embajadores tucked in by the hardware kiosk below the upper mercado. Aged rib eyes and filetes to die for at ridicules prices. The guy spent a lot of time in America and knows how to age beef.

No contest: Crustaceo Cascarudo on Cantarranas. Best burgers for 50 km. in any direction. And you would be surprised at how well their house red wine goes with them.
And, this establishment was one of the places that got burned when the city did its selective crackdown on patio tables. So, if you help keep them in business, you're doing a Good Deed.

Ok Sr. Roberb7 you sold me! Headed there later this week. Fingers crossed and stomach empty.
I followed the outdoor seating fiasco and will be happy to support these folks, especially for a great burger.
Mil gracias.

RE: Your favorite burger?
I second the recommendation of Crustaceo Cascaruro, though I think the burgers at Santo Café are about equally good. Both establishments also have decent fries, which are hard to come by in Guanajuato, and Santo Café offers a good potato salad as a side as well.

A negative recommendation: I've seen raves about La Burger (behind Campo Viejo on the outskirts of town), but I've been once and won't go back. Their burgers are indeed made of high-quality meat, but the prices are ridiculous. Further, our burgers took about 45 minutes to arrive, despite there being no other customers. Worst of all, they were not cooked to our order. We had to send them back twice, and they still arrived undercooked. At that point we gave up.

Regarding the "selective crackdown" on outdoor tables, I think it was unfortunate that it was somewhat selective. All in all, though, it pleased me. Restaurant tables had for years encroached on public space--most notoriously and flagrantly in the case of Casa Valadez (Guanajuato's answer to Denny's)--and I thought it was high time that the government cracked down. It's so rare that the city government here does anything that I feel compelled to applaud its rare initiative.

Good info, thanks. We had purposely avoided La Burger as it arrived with boosts about being famous in SMA and brought those SMA prices also.
As I followed the outdoor seating issue in the press and by observation I too saw blatant favoritism toward some "established" locations.
I think INAH shares in the credit for this action and any improvement to
our public spaces.

RE: Your favorite burger?
I'm not a connoisseur of burgers, and I don't eat beef, so I can't give you the very best advice. However, I've been to 3B BURGERS (the 3 B's stand for bonito, bueno, y barato) twice and I really liked their vegetarian (mushroom) and chicken burgers. My carnivore friends said the beef burgers are good, maybe not the best in the world. They have a waffle burger (served between waffles), and a light burger (served between lettuce, which falls apart, be warned). Inexpensive; burgers run from $45-$55 pesos. But what I really like about this place is they have onion rings, chili fries, Dr. Pepper, and, best of all: ROOT BEER FLOATS!!! They are open 1-10 every day except Mondays, and there's a different special every day of 3x2 or 2x1. They also serve pasta, wings, and pizza. The waiters and young, Mexican owners are very nice, and it's a comfortable place decorated with attractive antiques. They're located on Constancia #9E, above the Empanada place (also good). Constancia is the alley that starts next to the parking lot behind Teatro Juarez and goes up to El Gallo Pitagorico. Check them out on facebook, lots of photos and the specials listed there, or better, yet, in person.

RE: Your favorite burger?
As a native carnivorous Texan, I can say the Unicorn Azul has the only tofu burger I have ever eaten and would again. The bun is extraordinary, the toppings spectacular, and the patties(s) were great tasting. I would gladly order them again in the right company. Only I suggest going (Herbal Store across from Santander entering Calle Juarez from La Paz) and not having a taxi do the delivery (favorite part of living here). The bottom buns were sort of soggy.
