Tree Trunks
Does anyone know what the name of the white paint like substance is found on tree trunks around town and where to buy some? I've heard its purpose is to repel ants and we have some trees that are in need of that.

RE: Tree Trunks
THe application of white paint on tree trunks is to keep the tender bark cooler to prevent drying which leads to cracking making the tree more susceptable to insects and disease. Not a special paint, just bright white.

RE: Tree Trunks
Thanks for the clarification jesm. I was told at the Comex store I needed something called "escal". Will any white paint do or is there something specific for tree trunks?

Thanks,
Gary

RE: Tree Trunks
In the states we would use any white paint. looking at the attached article, here they use cal, which is a form of calcium to minimize damage from leaf cutter ants. We buy powdered cal in large bags to use as a cement additive.
