Second International Brass Festival, Guanajuato 2016 (Jan. 11-15, 2016)

It is my pleasure to announce the Second International Brass Festival, Guanajuato 2016, put on by the Music Department and Cultural Extension of the University of Guanajuato from January 11th to the 15th, 2016.

Myself, Claire Hellweg, Principal Horn of the Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra and Horn Professor at the University of Guanajuato and my husband, José Cayetano Hernández Díaz, Trumpeter in the Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra and Trumpet Professor at the University of Guanajuato, are proud to be the coordinators of this exciting event.

Students and young professionals from all over Mexico are making plans to convene in Guanajuato, Mexico, the beautiful cultural capital of Mexico, for 5 intense days of master classes, rehearsals, performances, expositions, conferences, and social events with Guest Artists Roland Szentpali (extraordinary tubist from Hungary), Lacey Hays (established trumpet educator and freelancer from Texas), Debora Maffeis (expressive and virtuosic Italian hornist from the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra), Juan Pardo (energetic and captivating Spanish Principal Trombonist of the Jalisco Philharmonic), and Bernardo Medel Díaz (one of Mexico’s leading classical trumpeters, of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra).

Most of you know what an experience at a music festival can mean for young players. It can change their lives forever, setting the course for numerous opportunities and successes for their future. In order to give this experience to as many young Mexican musicians as possible, we are keeping the cost of the entire course under 100 dollars per participant.

We hope that you will contribute whatever you can (even 5 dollars!) to the goal of inspiring hard work, creativity, and personal development in young Mexicans through the challenge and joy of playing music together.

No schedule there! So typically and wonderfully Guanajuato, but I wish someone would get inspired to actually create a calendar for this city. More often than not, I find out about things the next day, lol.
