hiking la bufa

We are going to hike la bufa again this Thursday morning (2 september). Please meet at my house (Callejon de Zaragoza 40, 2-c) at 8.30 for a breakfast treat or in the Hospital ISSSTE parking lot at 9.00 (this is the end of the Pipila-ISSSTE bus route). Please let me know if you are coming so we know to be looking for you.

This is moderate hike lasting around three hours total time. Please wear substantial shoes (hiking boots or heavy tennis shoes). Also, please bring a water bottle, a hat, suncreen, a snack and a walking stick if you have one.

Heavy rain cancels. See you Thursday.

Hi, can you supply any more information on the route taken to accomplish this hike? Thank you!

google this "hotel la casona de cantera, Guanajuato, Mexico", then click on the little map on the right side of the screen, and a larger map will come up. To the left on the larger map you'll see a road heading south. Zoom in an you will see it is named "Camino A la Cueva de San Ignacio". Follow it to la bufa. As you can see on google earth you can cut the switchback or stay on the road. I don't know whether you can drive up the road for a shorter hike.

It has been a while, but as I recall when you get close to la bufa itself the foot trail forks. One begins to climb la bufa and the right fork looks like it is going in the wrong direction. I believe that we found that the right fork, although longer, was easier and safer.

La Bufa is south of El Centro. So from the main hospital on the Panoramica, continue south and park south of the power station, then take the dirt road or the steeper short cut to begin your hike.

I also have a question, do you know if busses traverse the entire length of the Panoramica, in other words will they be coming by the power station very often where the end of this road from the Bufa runs into the Panoramica?

Sorry, I do not know how far you an drive up the dirt road, but from this youtube it looks like you might be able to drive to the point shown on your map. Or Google La Cueva de san ignacio.

We hiked up from the power station which is right on the Panoramica. As I recall the dirt road seemed pretty good. I remember a cattle gate farther up the road but there was not a sign on the gate, so I presume you could continue past the gate.

I also do not know if there is a bus that goes around that part of the Panoramica, but a taxi would probably be less than $3 US.
