Trámites
Saludos everyone! My husband and I will be returning to Guanajuato after a 7-year absence. Is the Immigration office for Gto. State still headquartered in San Miguel de Allende? Also, according to my research, your car permit is current as long as your visa is up to date. The site explained that you must notify your local (non-airport) Aduana within 15 days of visa renewal. Is there a non-airport Aduana in Guanajuato? We'd so like to avoid a trip to the border every year to renew our vehicle permit! Any information would be appreciated...

RE: Trámites
Regarding immigration yes it is in SMA but I find the office in Leon closer and less crowded and there are business in the same building to help with support such as copies, photos etc. the office in Leon is just before costco on the main drag heading into town in an old mall. Having been to both several times Leon is now my favorite.

RE: Trámites
Welcome back. We agree with suggested use of the relocated Leon office of Migracion. It is however much busier, in part from the many work related users from the large number of foreign owned industries that are establishing plants and offices nearby. Seems better staffed and easier access and parking. On the visa/car permit, we likewise understand the concurrent validity status as you describe. It was reinforced recently at a traffic check by the Federal police who acknowledged all was good after inspecting both permisos.

Regarding the aduana office, I am not sure about in Guanajuato state but we have used the aduana office in Aguascalientes for vehicle permit stuff. Still 2.5 hours away but closer than a border run.

RE: Trámites
After seven years you may not realize a resident visa application has to be done at a Mexican Consulate in your home country .... no longer at INM here

Your car permit will also have a deposit that can be lost without an Aduana visit

RE: Trámites
No worries, as we have been residing in Aguascalientes for the past year and already have residente temporal visas in hand. Still wondering if there is an Aduana in Guanajuato to take care of car permit renewal, or if we'll have to travel back here to Ags. as a previous respondent suggested. Thank you, everyone, for your valuable input!
