One of our fellow immigrants (he's lived in Mexico City for most of the past 50 years) just got out of the hospital, but his condition is "delicate". He had infections in his lungs and his urinary tract and was suffering from dehydration. He's also suffering from Alzheimer's. Millions of us have read his work in I don't know how many languages.
Most recently I found my daughter-in-law reading his collection of stories Strange Pilgrims when I visited her in the US. Thank you, Bob, for letting us know how Gabo is faring.

Mexico has been a haven for other important Hispanic writers too. The one who comes to mind is the Argentine poet Juan Gelman, an exile for political reasons. He lived in Mexico City for many years before dying at an advanced age this spring.

Today's NYTimes featured a color photo of GGM and an article at the top of its front page, El Pais had a half dozen articles, La Jornada on Tuesday will I'm sure feature the homage to him in the Bellas Artes that takes place tomorrow at 4pm.
