Watching Olympics without cable or dish
I discovered that at http://olympics.cbc.ca/online-listing/grid.html , it's possible to watch the Winter Olympics in the way that it should be possible to watch them. You get a choice of live coverage on several channels, AND if you missed an event, you can just click on the event, and view it start to finish.
However, this service is only supposed to be available in Canada. I had a VPN (or proxy server) already, but it only has servers within the US. So, I did some net surfing, and came up with https://www.boxpn.com/ It costs less than the service I was using before, and they have VPN servers in several US and Canadian cities (the CBC now thinks I live in Toronto), and 15 other countries. It was pretty easy to install, and I was watching an ice hockey game between Latvia and Switzerland just before I started typing this. When I get a chance, I'll check to see which movies Netflix makes available to viewers in the UK. |

RE: Watching Olympics without cable or dish
Thanks very much for that. I'll give it a try. I had been watching NBC on USTVNOW.com. You can sign in from MX and it isn´t any kind of problem with getting a signal you shouldn't have. You get the basic channels free and the rest are expensive. Now that they have taken CBS off SKY we can watch Jeopardy on CBS on ustvnow. But.. when alot of people watch, it slows down. I gave up on the Olympics and would just go to youtube to find a performance I wanted.
I have a hidemyass account and also netflix. I wanted to watch Dexter and tho it was available in MX, it didn't have subtitles that my husband needs so I decided maybe Canada would have English subtitles and they did. They had all the Dexter episodes while the US was still trying to rent a dvd. So it's good to be able to travel around the world in a few minutes and get what we need. I think I'll go to Montreal or Toronto tonite and check out the Olympics. Thanks alot. Wow! Roberb7 you are my hero. I have the figure skating pairs short program on. They are just warming up so I can take a break. I went to the world championships in Colorado Springs around 50 yrs ago when the Protopopovs ruled in pairs and it was so great to see them. This is pretty cool also. All 3 hr 26 min and 21 seconds and I can pause it. I hope I can watch the Somebody Von Somebody from Austria who is representing MX in his mariachi suit in the slalom. Or maybe that was just a joke. Muchisimas gracias. |

The mariachi suit was for the opening ceremony. Here's more: http://mexfiles.net/2014/01/27/does-this-look-gay/ |

RE: Watching Olympics without cable or dish
Thanks for posting this, Señor Duck. We now know that his big day is this coming Friday.
I had forgotten that he was the oldest participant (51 at the time) in the 2010 Olympics. That makes it very likely that he's the oldest particpant in this Olympics, too. |

Quote:Thanks for posting this, Señor Duck. We now know that his big day is this coming Friday. Turns out that the info in the CNN report was incorrect. von Hohenlohe is competing in the men's slalom on Feb. 22, which is scheduled to start at 6:45 AM CST. He's also gotten some attention for non-downhill action; see http://www.independent.ie/world-news/eur...03480.html |

Von Hohenlohe was a "DNF" in men's slalom.
Canada vs. Sweden for the men's ice hockey gold medal on Sunday. |
