RE: crappy Interent for the past week or so
Many of my amigos in Zihuatanejo still have no service since the recent storms.

RE: crappy Interent for the past week or so
J Thanks for the namebench tip. I downloaded the Linux version and ran it - takes 5 minutes or more and was initially disappointed with the result:
![]() Internet is working faster now - its not just a matter of connection speed [speedtest.net just came back with 5.31mbs] but how the connections are handled. Now next test is to see if this DNS server is more stable and my ROKU stays online. re: Robert7's comments about where films on Netflicks are avaiable or not [which countries] I just found this which might be an asset: The best way to get most out of your Netflix and Overplay Smart DNS subscriptions is to use them in conjunction with Moreflicks. Just go to Moreflicks , search for a movie or TV show you want to watch, and click the Netflix button next to it to see which Netflix regions it?s available in. |

RE: crappy Interent for the past week or so
After I posted yesterday, I started to experience problems with USTVNow buffering. This was in the afternoon. I went into my router configuration and used various DNS servers besides UnblockUS Alternate DNS, but it did not make a difference, indicating that the problem was Telmex's drop in speed from 20mbps to 5mbps. So I called Telmex and upraded my service from 5mbps to 10mbps. I got it for MN$799/month rather than the advertised MN$999/month. For MN$799 you keep your "old plan" and they just up the speed to 10mbps. That's fine with me because I do not need anything that the MN$999 plan offers, other than the speed. I inquired about 20mbps and keeping my "old plan", and they said that was not available. They did say however that I could drop my telephone service altogether and get just 10mbps internet for MN$499/month, and that that was only available for 10mbps also.
As of last night USTVNow was NOT buffering at 5mbps. Still I am going ahead with my upgrade. In this day and age 5mbps is snail's internet, to be truthful. |

RE: crappy Interent for the past week or so
Namebench may have to be run weekly to monthly as conditions change and DNS serves speed up and slow down over time. One week one DNS server may be the fastest but the following week or month it may not.

RE: crappy Interent for the past week or so
That would be a great change, keeping Infinitum without being forced to keep the Telmex landlne. Headed to Telmex to pursue.

RE: crappy Interent for the past week or so
Here's an example. I've been trying to access http://athletics.sfu.ca , and get "the connection has timed out".
First, I've tried this with both Infinitum and Google's DNS servers, and got the same result. However, when I switch on my proxy server, which makes it appear that I'm in the US, it loads fine. |
