Amigos de los Animales de Guanajuato is having a party to benefit the animals on Saturday, August 24, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the beautiful garden of the Casa de Esp?ritus Alegres, Ex-Hacienda La Trinidad, Calle Real S/N, in Marfil. Donations for this event are 150 pesos for adults and 100 pesos for children under the age of 12 and full-time students. Admission includes delicious botanas and non-alcoholic drinks; wine and beer will also be available at 50 pesos per serving. If you will be driving to the party, parking can be found along Calle Hospitales.

If you cannot attend, please make a donation in any amount by going to our website, www.amigosanimalesgto.org. We need to raise additional funds this year to continue our sterilization, education, and rescue activities. All proceeds raised by this event will be spent on the animals themselves.

You mention "education" activities. Is Amigos de los Animales doing anything to educate the public about the danger of pit bulls? These beasts are rapidly becoming a plague in Guanajuato. According to yesterday's El Universal and Excelsior, a pit bull attacked and killed a toddler in Mexico City (the toddler had done nothing to provoke this). Meanwhile, here in Guanajuato it seems that nearly every young macho who's unsure of his masculinity has to have a pit bull of his own. Most of them are on leashes, but it's only a matter of time before some are abandoned and become menacing street dogs.
