Linux is FREE and XtraPC is free Lubuntu on a bootable USB drive that you pay $25 for. If you use it make sure any files you create remain on your hard drive as when you shut down XtraPC nothing is saved. You could install any version of Linux for free alongside your Windows installation and have a dual-boot set up. A very user friendly Linux OS is called ZorinOS which allows you to have a desktop setup like XP or Win7 or Gnome
