While we love watching the birds, we don't put out seed at home -- we have a talented kitty who takes advantage of the situation. As for the hummers, the use of non white sugar is fine but you must be very careful about mold. The feeders need to be changed and cleaned often. If mold develops, use some bleach in the wash water to be sure it is sterile. We use refined sugar in a more concentrated solution. Lots of hummers. Right now, only the violet crowned and the broad billed are coming but stay alert for the blue throated and the magnificant hummers. Good luck! |
