call me very naïve but ORGANized PROSTITUTION IN GUANAJUATO???

This news was widely reported, including in the highly respected national newsweekly Proceso. Many of the initial reports spoke not merely of prostitution but of human trafficking and even white slavery.

But now it appears that those initial reports were wrong. I'm used to our local a.m. and Correo papers being pieces of crap, but I'm surprised that even Proceso seems to have stepped in it.

Anyway, the latest reports say nothing about prostitution or human trafficking. Instead, they charge the men who were arrested with various crimes, notably stealing petroleum from Pemex pipelines (which has become a big source of income for the "narco" mafias over the past couple of years). This is known as ordeña, or "milking." Some of the leaders of the group are reported to be ex-Federales. I've read that at least three houses in Guanajuato, including the one initially thought to be a brothel, were seized by the feds (the "good" Federales, that is). In addition to stealing petroleum, according to Correo, the men are accused of extortion, vehicle theft, homicide, and arms trafficking. La Jornada says the feds have seized six properties; 26 vehicles, including 12 luxury cars; 10 firearms of various caliber, including some whose use is legally restricted to the military; machinery used to perforate the pipelines; 4,000 weapons cartridges; jewelry; 10,000 liters of gasoline; 30,000 liters of diesel; and more than 2 million pesos in cash.

So what happened to those 13 "rescued" young ladies, the supposed prostitutes or trafficking victims? Beats me. The latest articles don't mention them at all. Maybe they were just along for the ride, while it lasted.
