RE: Internet service
Never ask technical questions in an expat forum. Is Coke or is Pepsi better? And what if the Coke used in a blind taste test has been left outdoors in the sun for 2 years and this causes it to fail that test? So doing a blind taste test, this time Pepsi will always be better and that's if Coke was our favorite before and fails only because in this case, Coke has suffered unknown environmental issues. So what are the environmental issues you could be having and chances are they are the deciding factor and not which soft drink maker is best or which brand of service is better. Therefore if either service is bad, summon the correct people to track down the source that is causing it. Have some kids cut or frayed your fiber line, has it rubbed against the building, is your modem/router not updating and at a back firmware level, or has it overheated, gotten dusty or gotten wet, or did the tech not secure the fiber connector well enough in the back, or have you moved it, or did the cat chew the fiber line almost in half, or did the maid dislodge it to the point the fiber junction coupling is bad or intermittent, or is their a hardware defect in the router, or is there a pair of 10lb tennis shoes floating on the line outside that pulls it loose from the outside distribution box every time the wind blows, or what is causing this issue? Or could you be still in an area that has not rolled fiber out and are you perhaps still on copper and beyond the 3 mile limit or on the edge of poor performing DSL over copper? (Was the plan I heard last year to go all fiber by this year but maybe something happened.)

Both Telmex and Megacable offer good services but for service level I would give Telmex is "excellent" while I have no experience in Megacable except in neighboring San Miguel and for the most part it is frightfully more prone to outages when compared to Telmex but still more reliable tham cable services I have experienced in the US. And what should you ask me at this point? Maybe I should check the potential environmental issues to which I would answer, no I did not and I am being just as bad as everyone else with their generalizations and unproven theories.

It would also be nice to hear what your complaint is. If you are fraught with issues about a language barrier talking to sales and support vs. if you have Internet service that goes down weekly, these are separate issues. Telmex was in the process of upgrading from DSL over copper to fiber optic lines last year at which time we got a free upgrade to fiber because we "were the last subscriber in our barrio to have not requested a conversion" and that was simply because the DSL was working well and the price was right and we didn't need "new, faster, better". But the new fiber service (contrary to the old flaky DSL over copper) has been impeccable except for the power company issues which are unrelated. So if service is the issue, suspect a bad line or modem and there may very well be English speaking techs (as we had) who will come out and make sure things are "right" - so I'd start there.
