Take heed: Broad daylight hold up, an American senior victim
"Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon about 1:30, the woman was walking down Temesquitate, just where it turns and the steps begin, when a young punk ran up, stuck a piece in her face and took her wallet. He then ran off.
Luckily, he only got 50 pesos, but he did get all her cards and ID, so that's going to be a colossal pain. We got video from several street cameras in the 'hood, but nothing with a good facial shot on it. When we went to the cops, they offered her a choice of a.) Immediately accepting an acknowledgement from the cops that she had reported the crime, which would then enable her to take a copy of that to relevant entities in order to (relatively) quickly get new cards, ID, etc. However, no investigation of the crime would then result and nothing further would be done. b.) Initiate an investigation, which would then hold up the issuance of any document acknowledging that she had reported the crime until some time later, if ever, in the process; one which of course no one was willing to speculate about how long that might be. Given the fact that no one was physically harmed and the amount involved was 50 piddling pesos, you can imagine just how much time the cops were going to devote to any "investigation," so she opted for getting the necessary document right away, and so that's that." |
