Yankees? Gringos? USAnians?
The Economist has a short essay about what to call people from the United States: Yankees? Gringos? USAnians?
IMHO, Yankees is confusing, as it sometimes refers only to people from the Northeast; Gringos is offensive; and USAnians is ridiculous. I prefer none of the above. Instead, why not Yanks? It's how my Brit and Aussie friends refer to people from the U.S., and it's short, crystal clear, and inoffensive. http://www.economist.com/blogs/johnson/2..._americans Don |
