RE: Printing good-quality photos, retail
If your goal is to digitize a lot of old film, for economics and quality I highly recommend doing the work yourself if you have the time.

Several years ago I purchased a Nikon LS-2000 (Nikon slide and fim scanner) on ebay and refurbished it. There are some online guides for doing so and I recommend that if you go that route you go with confidence you can do the work or else buy one that has been refurbished. It's a lot more economical of course and Nikon's iSRD (infrared dust and scratch removal) is the only way to go with 35mm neg and positive film scanning (anything else regardless of the cost will leave you film spotting for days in photohshop). The LS-2000 while clunky was all I needed for the task and about 3 months of spare evenings of course. If you go this route you'll need to do a lot of research to get the old SCSI interface working on a modern Windows 10 machine or easier, just use and old 386 machine that is still working and plug in a cheap SCSI card from eBay.

*** In fact my plan is in the future when I stop traveling to bring the setup here and offer some student a part time job of scanning the rest of my old film collection into a digital archive. It was remarkable to see the quality of some of the old family slides from the 50's scanned with the Nikon.
