BJX Taxi Issues - MissMyBike - 07-06-2022
We arrived to BJX last night, on a late Vivaaerobus flight from Monterrey. We arrived around 12:30 AM. Everything went well, until we got to the taxi station in the car rental area. A sign posted indicated "there are no cars". We approached the attendant and asked for alternative options to catch a ride to GTO Centro. She said we can try calling an Uber (which entails a walk away from the terminal to catch the illegal Uber ride) or have someone pick us up. Hmmmm. Not too helpful. As we walked to the outside door, I pulled up the Uber app & requested a ride - no matter how far we'd have to walk to catch a ride. The Uber app went around & around for minutes, & finally said, cars are not available. By now we were on the curb, hoping to have a passing car slow down to pick us up. None did. now came the miracle: a single solitary airport taxi drove by the drop off curb at slow speed. We waved him down, or better say forced him to stop, & convinced him to give us a ride. Nice fellow, he agreed, & hear this: he asked for the normal airport taxi fare! Enroute, he explained, a number of planes arrived early, the airport taxis all took off with passengers, & likely none of them planned to be back until the next morning flight. Fortunately, we survived, but without a doubt, the lesson learned was: never - I MEAN NEVER AGAIN - book a late flight into BJX. I think after about 11:30 PM, one should be prepared to spend the night at the airport if not being picked up by an anticipating driver. I hope this post will save some the agony of desertion in the airport.
