Mexico imposes restrictions on DEA activity - roberb7 - 12-16-2020

Does anyone here have any comments on the veracity of this article? https://www.thedailybeast.com/mexico-slaps-cuffs-on-the-dea-after-arrest-of-general-salvador-cienfuegos
In particular, the phrase "In a violation of international norms"in the fourth paragraph.
The NY Times weighed in on this on Tuesday: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/15/world/americas/mexico-us-drug-agents.html
The last paragraph makes perfect sense.

Does the US, or any other nation allow foreign law enforcement to work unfettered on its soil?

This is part of the decision.

The imperialistic position that has always dominated the USA view of Mexico continúes.
There have been so many invasions of Mexico by the northern behemoth that Mexico City has a valuable museum that is solely focused and covers every Yanqui incursión, 8 in total!
Yet, Mexico’s peoples continue to welcome, love and assist us.

I have always questioned why the US, whose consumption of illegal substances is monumental, doesn’t do more to find a solution to why its citizens feel the need to self medicate. I’m guessing if you found a fix in the social structure / culture that drove its citizens to seek substances, you probably wouldn’t have a need for a “ war on drugs” , there is a reason Americans are big drug users, why not address that elephant in the room?

You're talking about the National Museum of Interventions in Churubusco, right? I've been through it, and it's excellent.
If my memory is correct (this was a few years ago), the French got some attention, too. Most people don't know about the Pastry War. (Not kidding, there was such a thing.)

Maybe the DEA needs to take a break anyway. Why fight it when it's becoming the base-line of many state's tax revenue LOL. I was just thinking the next time I cross north if questioned about any illegal substances, I'd say to the agent "why bother with Mexico when the US produces so much higher quality stuff" LOL. On second thought I think I'll stick to smiling and repeating "yes sir". I do notice over the past 5 years or so that Mexico has implemented dog inspections when headed south. Perhaps there is new southward flow considering all the recreational activity north of the border. Still it's all a fool's game anyway. Driving north from Ciudad Hidalgo at the Guatemala crossing northbound into Mexico is more of a military shakedown than entering the US from Mexico. Rumored to be US-manned, this Mexico gestapo immigration outfit took everything in my camper fridge and x-rayed my vehicle 5 times by the time I made Tapachula. In contrast, last time through Reynosa into US, I only lost my Costco branded ham and salami. Your tax dollars at work.
