Tipping the baggers at El Comer - louisarogers - 12-01-2019 After I learned that the baggers aren't paid a salary, I've been upping my tip, and the last time I went, I paid the bagger 20 pesos. He was almost embarrassingly grateful, saying it was way above average. I've since decided to increase my tip to 50 pesos. I don't go there that often. $2.50 is not a big deal to me, but it is to them. And it is only accident that I happened to be born in a much wealthier country (and at a time when I didn't have to spend half my adult life paying off college debts). I'd like to hear anyone else's opinion on this, whether you think it's a good idea or not. RE: Tipping the baggers at El Comer - jesm - 12-01-2019 I don’t know you but have deep admiration for your way of thinking. Keep doing good. RE: Tipping the baggers at El Comer - pianoheat - 12-01-2019 I like what your doing I've been more generous but not as generous as you. I'm guessing they will be fighting to do you bagging. a lot of people have it tough here and the things that seem small to us can be very big for them. Thank you RE: Tipping the baggers at El Comer - Clay01 - 12-04-2019 You go!! You keep right on being a decent and caring human!! RE: Tipping the baggers at El Comer - Mikel1 - 12-04-2019 And while we are at it, if you come back from Pozuelos in a cab, save a few pesos for the man in the wheel chair who badgers the dispatcher for cabs and keeps everybody in the que honest. RE: Tipping the baggers at El Comer - gdean7165 - 12-05-2019 I always enjoyed tipping the young girl who bagged groceries at the Ahorremas store on Cantarranas. I don't know if she ever got any of the money, but the look of surprise on her face always made the act worthwhile. On a side note, my Spanish teacher Luis told me a few years back that waiters in restaurants only make $4-$5 USD per eight hour day. Ever since I heard that I "upped my game" a little on the tips. |
