Temporary Residency Visa recent experience?
As I peruse different Mexican Consulate websites, it seems that their minimum
financial requirements for retirees vary.
Have you acquired a Temporary Resident Visa (Retired) in the past few months?
Where? The 6-months minimum income required?
Some consulate websites say approval time required is 1 - 3 days, others 1 - 10.
How long did your Visa take to completion?
I'm especially interested in the workings of the Laredo, TX consulate.

As you have noted, the financial requirements and wait times vary. I recently received my approval in Chicago and had to wait 7 days after my appointment date in order to pickup my CANJE.
Yes, you must meet the minimum financial requirements for the consulate that you are applying. When I returned, I used an agency in SMA to process the paperwork with immigration. I've only had to return for fingerprints. Now I have to wait and hope that they don't run out of printing materials and make it through the holidays.

Doyle, i started the process in Laredo,Tx a week ago.I was approved and got the canje stamp the same day.I find the website for Sonia Diaz in san miguel very helpful, its soniadiaz.mx. She responds quickly to any questions.She is handling it for me now and charges a total of 6500pesos( 4000 for the visa, and 2500 for her service) i met her a few days ago in s miguel,gave her photos and paid in advance. I will give my fingerprints in mid january and get the visa a few weeks after that( between 8 and 10 weeks total) Income requirements are 1400usd month or savings of 22,000usd. I suggest staying at the Rialto Hotel a few blocks from the consulate.Sonia can book an appt for you, she is great

I concur with dermotwa. Sonia Diaz handled all my paperwork (except for my photos, which were taken at the photo shop in Plaza Los Angeles) and set up my appointment in Laredo. It took 1 1/2 hours for approval and the canje stamp. Like the other consulates, Laredo is strict vis-a-vis their income requirements, but unlike the McAllen consulate, there were no other "surprises".

Consulate differences aside the entire financial requirement formula is based off the current official minimum wage. As AMLO is pledged to smartly boosting the legal minimum in 2019 it may be smart to apply soon,as any such income requirement seems likely to increase, perhaps significantly.
PS we too benefited from Sonia Diaz experience and INM relationships. She’s a pro!

Doyle, I started the process in late November in Larado. Received my visa within 2 hours. I barely made the minimum financial requirements. During a short interview the man kept suggesting that I should work in Mexico to boost my income. I think he was trying to trick me into saying i will work in Mexico. As long as you have all your paperwork in order, I don't think it is necessary to hire a consultant. Thanks for the good info. I've been trying daily for over a week to make an appointment. Apparently the only way to make an appointment is online with Mexitel Citas. The website has not been functioning.
Phone calls and emails to the Laredo consulate go unanswered.
