Tipping house cleaners for the Christmas season - Waymond Smith - 11-21-2018
What is the practice for tipping house cleaners for the Christmas season in Mexico? What would be considered a average amount (if that exists)? How soon do you tip? In time for them to be able to shop for their family?
I'm at a loss regarding this issue.

Please do a search for ‘aguinaldo’. It’s an obligatory end of year payment along with any unused vacation days. The aguinaldo has to be paid by 20 December.

I wish I had that problem. I've been searching for a housekeeper for about a year and a half. I've posted everywhere, and nothing works out. Oh well...:)

Linn, I researched ‘aguinaldo’, but that doesn't apply to me. The woman comes in once a week to do light cleaning, she's paid a pretty decent wage for the amount of time that she spends cleaning (2 - 21/2 hours). She is not an "employee". Again does anyone have a idea of what to tip for Christmas?

You can follow your heart or just extrapolate the full time aquinaldo formula for full time employees to reflect the hours worked by a part time worker. Your helper will expect something, it’s the law. Payment is due before 15 December, or about.

I can only tell you what we are planning to do and maybe it will help.
We have decided to pay an extra weeks salary to her as a bonus.
Blackpool, what part of the city are you located in? I can ask my housekeeper if she is taking houses in that area, if you would like?
