US Notary - colleen - 10-16-2018

I am a notary but now I am looking for someone who can notarize my signature on documents for the US. I guess I can go to San Miguel with an apptmt and get it done at the consulate. Does anyone know someone near us in Gto who is also a notary in the US and willing to help me out? Thanks

Outside of the U.S., only embassy and consular officials are legally empowered to notarize U.S. documents. So your only official, legal, by-the-book option here is to go to SMA, see consular agent Ed Clancy, and pay the hefty fee. (That fee, by the way, isn't Clancy's fault. It's set by the State Department.)

However, there are some exceptions to this general rule. Many years ago, for some document or other that my bank wanted me to get notarized, I called them and asked whether they'd accept the seal and signature of a Mexican notario. Notarios, of course, aren't exactly notaries, but in this case my bank said yes. So, depending on what types of documents you have, it might be worth your trouble to ask. You might save a little money and a trip to SMA.

Don has described perfectly the legalities. It’s $50 US per notary signature at US Consulate.
