Posting at 4:00AM - MissMyBike - 10-07-2018

It has been a rough night. People next door threw a party on the roof with music blasting at the max. Never mind the noise; the vibrations are to the bone. This is two weekends in a row, and Cervantino is not even here yet! The poor tenant above texted me at 2PM asking for help. She said the partiers called her off when she asked them to turn the music down. I went up to ask the same and suffered a similar fate. That was two hours ago. No telling how long this will go on. Almost certainly more people around this house suffered as we have.

Got online to see if anyone in Mexico has had any luck dealing with issues by calling the authorities. The findings were disappointing and even terrifying.

If anyone on the List has had any similar experiences - or Lord forbid worse, but with some good outcome (not counting waiting out the disturbance), please share your advice.

Is 911 working? Would I embarrass or risk myself by calling it?

911 is functioning. If BOTH you and the tenant individually call the police, they will check out the situation and possibly ask the neighbors to turn it down. The more verified complaints from neighbors, the better your chances. Also, the police will not tolerate any public drunkenness out in the street or callejón, especially in October. Likewise with underage drinking. If the police discover these situations, the party's over.

My neighbor is a "blast away continuous music fan" and his hours are from around 8-9AM until 10-11PM daily. I've not called the police but asked my landlord and his to talk to him. He stops for a few days after he is confronted, then begins again. To worsen the irritation, he has a "talking receiver" that announces each button he presses on the CD player "next, next, next, next". Mexico, love it or leave it.

Comparing to you, looks like I am lucky. My "guy" doesn't shake the building, the just runs 11-12 hrs per day, and he's right next door, attached to my building. He also plays the same 4 CDs over and over. At least it's not rap or reggaton; it could always be worse.

Another suggestion. If you have a Mexican neighbor of voting age, or better more than one, ask them to contact the Mayor’s (Alcalde) office or the office of the área diputada. An inperson visit is even better. His office is opposite the Basilica. If they pass on your complaint to the police then corrective action is much more likely. Plus we have a brand new Alcalde and they want to start strong.
