Looking for a Motorscooter to buy - luxpats - 02-01-2017
This feels like a long shot since we haven't been able to buy a scooter through the GTO Facebook group yet, but I thought I'd ask here as well. We're looking to buy a scooter, 150-175 cc (scooter with space for our son to stand in front).
We know that as foreigners on a temporary visa we can't technically own one here in Mexico--we have a Mexican friend into whose name we can sign the bike.

I believe you are mistaken about being able to own a scooter here. I've heard that also, but know a Canadian that bought and licensed a scooter here just 2-3 months ago. He has a tourist card.

Actually in Asia it is common to ride a family of 5 or 6 quite nicely on a bike of this size - Go for it!
Re 'buying' the scooter - there probably is no prohibition of that at all - the problem should come in registering and insuring it so why not just skip that part as is often done?
