Attended the state fair today much to this Ole Iowa Farm Boy's delight.
While hardly a duplicate of our Iowa's State Fair there is enough similarities to compare.
That's right down to the Cotton Candy & Taffy Apples. Less agricultural/livestock on display. But enough with the only disappointment being although a large banner proclaimed Porcinos, but alas not a pig to be found. As a teenage Master swine herdsman that was a downer. LOL
However the retail exhibits are far Superior to anything I have seen before especially the Leather area.
Lots of schoolkids but not crowded as I went early paying my 11 peso admission.
Cabbie first charged me 70 peso for the short ride from the bus station. When I scowled he lowered it to 60 which I paid without comment.
Walked back & when I bought my return bus ticket at the Primera booth the young gal looked at me charging me the senior half price fair even though while certainly old enough as a non resident I do not believe I qualify. Anyway made up for the cab.
A most delightful day!
PS Taxi fare from Presa to Central Autobus here in Guanajuato seems to have raised to 40 pesos. Still a good buy.

Instead of a taxi, you can take the Optibus from a stop that's a couple of blocks away from the bus station to the Poliforum stop.
Even better, the Metropolitano buses make a right turn off Lopez Mateos just before getting to the bus station. I've seen the drivers let people get off there, and that puts you very close to the fairground.
I'm not a farm boy, but I grew up with local agricultural fairs and state fairs. I haven't been to the GTO state fair yet, and I, too, am curious about what GTO's idea of a state fair is. Hope I have better luck at finding the porkers. (You should be able to smell them.)

Yes, there are porkers at our state fair. Here's a picture to prove it.
