I mindlessly left my money pouch on top of my dresser. A guest who passed through the bedroom on the way to the bathroom to relieve "itself" also relieved me of MX$500.

"mindlessly" is the key word here. The world has never been safe from theives, no, not even in garden-of-eden-GTO. Do not invite "guests" you don't know well. Do not tempt even the virtuous. Even those you know well can steal, and sometimes do, when tempted.
