Another Aduana Question-Expired TIP - Solo - 05-16-2013

I entered Mexico with an FMT and my vehicle a few years ago.

Since then I have switched to an FM3, which has always been current. I was under the impression that if my FM3 was current, my vehicle was ok.

I am leaving Mexico in a couple of weeks by car, and my "TIP" (temporary import permit) is very expired.

I am not bringing the car back to Mexico and plan on properly cancelling "TIP" etc. at the border

After reading a lot online I am unclear on if this will be a problem since my TIP is expired.

My question is, does anyone know if I will need a 'RETORNO SEGURO' "Safe Return" document issued by the Aduana? Or am I cool since my FM3 is current and I am not a permanent Residente Temporal?

I'd appreciate any info.

i may be wrong but your vehicle permit has not exactly expired since it was issued when you got your tourist visa and in effect your getting the FM3 extended your vehicle permit.

When you got your vehicle permit you put up a credit card payment probably of $200.00 At the border you will see or find an aduana module that will remove the sticker on your window and issue you a receipt. In my case it was about 2 weeks until i received a refund of my $200.00 If you no longer have the credit card service that originated the payment ask the guy how you can be reimbursed.

As for the return on your FM3 it will be safer to ask INM at the border before you leave Mexico. In the old days i think they wanted to stamp your passport whenever you left Mexico on an FM3. --doyle

Articulo 106: see this old post http://www.gtolist.com/forum/mybb1/showthread.php?tid=41 and more currently in the Ley Aduanera as publlished 3 May 13 [See SectionIV - IV. POR EL PLAZO QUE DURE SU CALIDAD MIGRATORIA, INCLUYENDO SUS PRORROGAS, EN LOS SIGUIENTES CASOS:... ].

Looking at Rolly Brook it gets a bit more confusing/complex when you reach the bottom of his '106' page and cilcking 'more'.

The truth is we never know. You are legally fine, but only the stars know what each person who stops you might do. Really...
