Report on the Opera Last Night - Jzmackenzie - 01-19-2013
Last night's closing of the opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, at Teatro Principal was fantastic! There was a full house. The entire cast was Spanish speakers; yet, they sang in English with Spanish subtitles over their heads. Always an appreciative audience, my husband Don (set design and make-up) joined the conductor (live orchestra) and director (herself an accomplished singer) on stage for the curtain call.
Both Angeles (26) and Lalo (16) joined us at the stage party after the play. Locally, Don is being called the "Godfather" of Lalo, a young man who does not have a grandfather in his life and does not live with his father either. We three adults call Angeles, "our other daughter." She is always helpful with any project that we undertake. The set design and make-up preparation was a BIG project here on this little rural rancho.
We three honestly feel like these are the best years we could imagine for this stage of our lives due to the overwhelming respect we are given by our neighbors and our nearby town. Join us in the joy we volunteers from Tierra de Verano have discovered from living and teaching in Central Mexico.
I'd LOVE to attach darling photos of the smiling faces of the kids and youth in the opera, but I am a dummy about resizing photos on my iMac. Nothing I have tried to buy online is working on my Mac. If anyone has suggestions, I am eager to hear them.
